Col. Viacheslav Semenenko, PhD, Wins the 2023 Tudjman Scientific Excellence Award
Col. Viacheslav Semenenko, PhD, Military Academy of Ukraine, was awarded the Tudjman Scientific Excellence Award for 2023. The award was presented at a celebratory dinner during the 8th Zagreb Security Forum on 20th October 2023.

Members of the Award Committee underlined Col. Semenenko's excellent integration of practical experience in combating different kinds of hybrid threats with his academic knowledge. Results of those activities are best seen in many works of Col. Semenenko. Especially within different NATO expert task groups (SAS 127, SAS-161). His works present significant contribution for the fields of security, intelligence and strategic communication.
Col. Semenenko is one of the best experts in this academic fields in Ukraine. His knowledge will be of great importance for NATO allies. Col. Semenenko is and expert that is connecting and gathering experts from other fields around idea of making better results. The Award committee especially appreciates the scientific contribution made to the Zagreb Security Forum and National Security and the Future journal by Col. Semenenko.
The Award was presented to Col. Semenenko by Prof. Gordan Akrap, Chairman of the Award Committee, Prof. Giliam de Valk, first winner of this award, and by Prof. Ivo Lučić, who was, together with Prof. Akrap very close associate to late Prof. Tuđman.

Prof. Shlomo Shpiro Wins the 2022 Tudjman Scientific Excellence Award
Prof. Shlomo Shpiro, Director of the Europa Institute at Bar-Ilan University in Israel, was awarded the Tudjman Scientific Excellence Award for 2022. The award was presented at a celebratory dinner during the 7th Zagreb Security Forum on 7th October 2022.
Members of the Award Committee underlined Prof. Shpiro’s groundbreaking research in the fields of security, intelligence and communication, as exemplified by his recent work on terrorism crisis communication and on crisis management during the Corona pandemic.
Prof. Shpiro is a pioneer of intelligence studies and serves as Chairman of the International Intelligence History Association. He was also responsible for developing European terrorism crisis communication strategies adopted by authorities all over Europe.
The Award committee especially appreciates the scientific contribution made to the Zagreb Security Forum by Prof. Shpiro from its beginning as an idea until today.
The Award was presented to Prof. Shpiro by Prof. Gordan Akrap, Chairman of the Award Committee, Prof. Giliam de Valk, winner of the previous year’s award, and by Prof. Ivo Lučić, who was, together with Prof. Akrap very close associate to late Prof. Tuđman.

2021
First Tudjman Scientific Excellence Award goes to Dr. Giliam de Valk
After detailed and careful consideration of several candidates, we decide, unanimously, that the first holder of the Tuđman Award for 2021 is Assistant Prof. Giliam G. de Valk from University of Leiden, Netherland.
Dr. de Valk received Tuđman Award during the 6th Zagreb Security Forum, and we are very proud that Dr. de Valk is regular speaker at the Forums. His works, and papers present significant contribution of the science in perceiving real-time challenges at the strategic level in anticipating and managing modern and future crises, his contribution to security sciences, and the importance and practical effectiveness of its work.
